Breda, the bustling city in the south, has much to offer. What can you do in Breda?
Breda is the main city of Nassau in Holland, retaining many monuments from the era. Visit the Grote Kerk or Great Church, the architectural highlight in the city center, and climb its tower to enjoy the beautiful view of the city. Other cultural attractions include Breda Castle and the Begijnenhof old residential court, definitely worth a visit.
In addition to these historic attractions you can also visit the museum for image culture. The Moti (Museum of the Image) illustrates the history of extraordinary graphic designs in Holland from 1890 to the present day, displaying photographs, posters and movie sequences.
Breda is also well known for its excellent shopping. The city center boasts a broad range of shops, boutiques and bustling markets.
An excellent way to explore Breda is on the water. The tour boats depart from city harbor, where you can opt for a wonderful boat tour through the canals of Breda or the lovely meadow region of Markdal. Tip: Hire your own canoe or small motorized boat during the summer months!
Where to eat in Breda?
Breda is a fun-loving city, a fact clearly illustrated by its many terraces and great restaurants. The best places to go are Grote Markt, Havermarkt and Haven squares. This is also where you will find excellent restaurants such as the upscale restaurant Chocolat, Parc, or for meat lovers Con Fuego and Gauchos.
Editor’s tip:
The centuries-old Mastbos forest dates from 1505 and was commissioned by the Nassau family. It is located just beyond Breda’s city limits, a beautiful area filled with heath fields, lakes, and birds and a good place to go if you want to escape the city crowds for a while. Settle down at nearby restaurant Huis den Deijl for a drink and a bite to eat.
